the property is on the beach. it's just a large resort so you need to walk from one end to another. that being said, the beach the resort is on is no the best beach. however, this is in a resort community and there are better beaches are within walking distance. I was told by my cab driver that this is one of the most upscale resort community on the island. You'll not regret coming. we were there earlier this year and plan to come back in 2019!
The dining situation here is a bit odd...especially if you have a family. There are limited Ritz property options.
Burger Shack near the beach. Limited to burgers and fries, but there is a chicken burger, vegi burger and fish burger. Everything is $20+. Bar also...but $20 for a margarita. Only open until 4. from 3-4, burgers are half off(only beef burger)
Terrace--which is basically the lobby bar. Definitely not a kid friendly experience or menu. But, saw a lot of parents that purchased food at Honolulu store (ie spaghettios, sandwhich) and kids were eating that while parents ordered off menu. Not a typical restaurant..just a lobby lounge area
market--only open breakfast and lunch. Take-out style
Pool--only open from 11-6. Only a small place to sit, if you want a restaurant "experience." This is mainly pool chair ordering
Hook and Knife: open at 5. They have a strange buffet, that is a $65 add to your entree. So, around $80/pp. There are also ala carte.
So--there is no restaurant style place for dinner, to sit, order casual food with the kids.
Unless you go over to the stores (3 minute walk.) But even then...nothing I would consider "casual, family" style. Sushi and 2 italian restaurants. And the Store has takeout food and sitting area. Taverna has some pizzas....and seems the most accessible (other restaurants are tiny and you need reservations at most times.)
Pineapple Grill, if open, is on the hotel shuttle route. Also a more casual option..but also a nice bar. Same with Merrimans.
The resort have 6 -7 floors by the pool area. The residence area is where I stayed and it have 2 floors. I was on the second floor but can't remember if there was a floor above me. You can see sunrise over the tall trees and mountains. In the morning the resort grounds are covered with native flowers.
