The Hotel Windsor is Australia’s most loved and recognised grand hotel. Built in 1883 during the Victorian era and pre-dating other notable hotels such as The Savoy, Waldorf Astoria, Ritz Paris and The Plaza Hotel, it set a benchmark for style, elegance, sophistication and charm which remains ever present today. The hotel is located in Melbourne’s most central and fashionable district. Its location is in close proximity to the corporate, financial and designer heart of Melbourne. Many of the city’s best theatres, landmark attractions and sporting venues are within a comfortable walking distance. The hotel is located 20km from Melbourne’s Domestic and International Airport, with a traveling time of between 20-45 minutes. Parliament train station and tram stops including the City Circle route are located at the hotel’s doorstep.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location, historical site and good value. While it is dated, has all the modern conveniences required for a pleasant stay. Easy access to historical sites, restaurants and public transportation. Staff are very welcoming and friendly.

The rrom was OK, buy the TV didn't work. we called the front desk and tey sent up a maintenance person who after borrowing a modem from the front desk, got it operational, however it only lasted for another 10 to 15 minutes, We went out to dinner and a show and when we returned, no channels were available, not even free to air. The maintenance person mentioned that the hotel had recently taken up a Foxtel package, whether that was the problem or not, I have no idea. I mentioned our disappointment at the Front Desk with little response. As we had paid for fairly expensive package, we won't be coming back.

Horrific. Definitely not what I thought I was paying for. Noise from upstairs and outside the room and the mist uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Plus a breakfast that can’t be modified or changed. Not good for someone who is gf and df intolerant.

Dear Meg, Sincere apologies. At the bottom of the Breakfast Menu under the heading Dietary Requests we say that modifications and tweaks cannot be accommodated. We are reviewing this now. However we do state "Please let us know however, if you have food allergies or special dietary needs. Again, your comments are driving us to make this clearer next to each menu item. We shall check your bed and apologise for the noise issues. With thanks and very best wishes. David David G A Perry General Manager

The property is a classic. It is in a terrific location convenient to tourism, dining, sports and shopping. The room was a satisfactory size and the room and public spaces were well appointed and maintained in a classic style. The concierge and staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant and Cricketers bar were lively and served good food and drink. A couple of issues need attention. The elevatoring is a problem. One of two was out of service and the other seemed iffy and slow. Both need replacing. The wifi internet service in the room is slow. I successfully held video conference from lobby, where the internet was better, but a proper business center would have been better.

Our room was looking pretty tired. There was mould on the grout in the shower and old obsolete power points painted over did not look good. My daughter was staying in the Dame Mellie Melba suite and some of the chairs in the sitting room had ripped and worn upholstery, as well all of the timber side tables could do with being sanded back and refinished. It was a shame as a little bit of maintenance can make a big difference. Only 1 lift was working the whole time we were there which was a bit frustrating. The beds and pillow were very comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location and great for large groups but would be nice if a bit of money was spent on upgrading the rooms. Breakfast was very good.

Firstly we have to say the staff were lovely and the food superb. But even though we had a scoopon deal I still think the room should have sheets with no red wine stains.( they did change them) but the basin was cracked covered in paint. I know the Windsor is old and grand but some things should be standard no matter what you pay for your room.

Hotel was lovely but just a couple of things. The wifi in the room was very weak and not always connected to our devices. Also the air conditioner was very noisy and did not seem to cool very well. Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay as the hotel is very well located

Fantastic historic hotel in central location - walk to CBD or a game at the MCG. Very comfortable bed & pillows. Didn’t use the dining rooms. Friendly staff but please don’t say come back at 3 when we checked in at 2:15 with no offer of where to sit / have a coffee etc Would still strongly recommend on the high price end of market.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. When we arrived late in the evening, we were originally given a room on the fourth floor which was extremely hot. After turning on the a/c, the room did not cool and we requested a new room. This was no problem at all, the manager moved us without any issues to a comfortable room on the first floor. The hotel is old but charming and full of period features. The grand staircase is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast in the elegant dining room, and a special mention must be given to the lady who appeared to be the manager. She was clearly run off her feet, yet remained calm, friendly and professional. The hotel is well located in the theatre district, so an easy 5 min walk for shows with plenty of places to eat nearby. There is a free tram stop outside. It is quiet at night and we slept well. We would recommend this hotel if you are looking for something different to the usual modern style venue and we would stay here again.

I stayed four nights in a deluxe room, facing Parliament House. There was almost no noise, and certainly I was never disturbed by any street noise. The room was extremely spacious, very comfortable and the pillows excellent. There is a pillow menu, which I did take advantage of. The room was 99% clean. There was a reasonable amount of dust on the headboard, but I just wiped it over myself. On two days of the four days I did not receive face washers from housekeeping, instead there was a hand towel folded in and left on the sink. I simply rang reception and had two flannels brought up. One day the rubbish was not taken away, but left on the living room floor, obviously forgotten. This was all very minor. I loved the Cricketer’s Bar! There is a very good lunch menu for only $20, including a beer or wine. Mon-Thu nights there is a dinner special for $25 with a drink. Great value! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely stay at the Windsor again when next in Melbourne. It is also so convenient to trains and trams.
