Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our room has a separate bed room and lounge. There is proper hanging space and cupboard. The bathtub is small and not useful. It is uncomfortable standing in the shower. Seems to have had a redecoration as the carpet feels new.

Not luxury hotel. But if you don't mind to stay cheaper place located in the city center, would be fine. It is located Students' street, you could walk to Main Square 2 blocks, and many different restaurants around.

We stayed at this hotel both before and after a group tour. The rooms and facilites vary wildly. For our 1st stay we had room 200. It's huge and is actually a triple room with 2 seperate rooms, plus the bathroom and a hallway. There is basically loungeroom furniture in the single room - lots of cupboards that you'll never use, a rundown couch and coffee table. The hotel staff advise you to run the water for 20 minutes to get a hot shower....there is NO hot water, and being from Australia, it's all just a terrible waste of water. The bathroom is old and the grout mouldy. The doublle bed is not level and during the night you will roll onto the middle. That said the sheets were clean. Breakfast is a bit hit and miss. Its meant to be available from 7:30am, but there is a good chance that it isn't ready at that time Staff try to be helpful, but it's a rundown Soviet style hotel that has seen better days. There are better options in UB for less money and way better facilites.

There were some aspects that made it average (3) and some that made it poor (2). Make sure you get a super good deal or it won't be worth it, and go in with the expectation that it's nothing special, and you'll probably be OK with it. I was lucky. My clerk at check-in spoke English. (And then there was the check-out process . . . not so lucky.) They had a man to carry the luggage upstairs (and back down when I left). "Suite" was quaint. Chairs look like they're cushioned, but don't sit down expecting them to be. Visual issues with trim, floorboards, etc., but if you don't pay a lot, you can more easily overlook these. Internet worked for me, except for a spell one evening. TV didn't work. The bathroom . . . there's a sign that warns it may take up to 10 minutes for the water to heat up. I prepared for that and had hot water in around 2 minutes. Plenty of counter space. Sufficient shower/tub area. A number of stains, but still clean. An uncovered outlet in the bedroom. I couldn't figure out how to regulate the heat so used only a sheet as the night progressed. Mattress was not too hard, and not too soft, but definitely firm. As long as other visitors are considerate, it's fine. However, if you have downstairs neighbors who want to sing along to something (on your last night, in particular), at the top of their voices, it will keep you awake. And annoy you . . . if they stop, you get to sleep once more, then 15-45 minutes later one bellows out the first few lines of the song again . . .and again . . .and again. With no such neighbors, you'll only hear the hallway traffic and probably sleep well. Location is not right by the Square, but it's not far away, making for an easy walk. Plenty of small, 'neighborhood' places to eat that are incredibly low in price. In another direction you have the nicer bars and restaurants, not all that far away. Based on the city and other hotel prices, aim for $40 or less, and you won't be (too) bummed. But, you get what you pay for (at that price)! If you get stuck with $50 or more, it probably won't be worth it. (But, as we all know, there are many factors that don't always give us the rate we want!)

Ok, this isn't your top end hotel. I stayed here 4 years ago and it's improved. Still has a decent breakfast... eggs, vegetables, yogurt, coffee... The beds are better, more rooms have hot water for showers. Several good restaurants are nearby and the area is safe to explore and close to Sukhbaatar Square and Peace Avenue with most of the shopping. My rooms have always been clean, sometimes there are issues, but knowing how much they've improved and how difficult it is to improve things in UB (getting the things you need to fix stuff... this ISN'T Seattle!) I found this gave me a teeny taste of local life...

I regret staying at the Zaluuchuud Hotel. I found rooms to be unclean, there were dead flies on the windowsills and the bed wasn't pristine either. I stayed in July and found the rooms very hot. On the booking form there was mention of a fan, but in actuality there were none. At first I was put on the second floor. There was slight noise from the road but it paled in comparison to the disco music blaring from next door. This went on until around 3 oclock when I was moved to the fouth floor. The room was much bigger and a lot quieter, however like the first room, not exactly clean, still hot and there was a slight smell of sewerage. Given the price of the rooms I left very disappointed as this hotel didn't come close to justifying its price.

I arrived here to find the reception staff didn't speak English, my single room was dirty smelly and noisy, the TV didn't work, the toilet did not flush flush and there was no hot water. the socket that the bedside lamp plugged into started to smoke, spark and caught fire, there were flames, no fire alarm! I went to reception to report it to find the lack of English meant that the receptionist thought when I said fire I was asking for a cigarette lighter!!! possibly the worse hotel I have stayed in

On arrival my daughter found the receptionist struggled to understand English, but when she persevered, the staff on the desk were very friendly and went out of their way to help her - finding the bar where her tour group were meeting and changing money for her. The room was basic with an ensuite, reasonably comfortable beds, mini-fridge and mirror. There was a hair drier in the bathroom but on the first day there was no water in the shower. She changed rooms and the shower worked after that. Hot water wasn't always available. The buffet breakfast was plentiful but some foods were interesting for westerners - seaweed, cake, dumplings and rice. There was also a laundry service. The hotel is about ten minutes walk from Chinggis Khan Square. A reasonable hotel if you're on a budget.

Honestly this is potentially the worst hotel room I have stayed in and I have travelled a lot in countries in all star ratings of hotels. Open shower products in the bathroom, showing it hadn't been cleaned, the taps were either scalding, I burnt my arm or freezing cold and the bathroom smelt quite bad. Our bed had stains on the sheets and hairs in the bed. Carpet coming up from the floor and stains on it. It was loud as our room faced onto the street where lots of partying was going on for some reason, think we were next to the university. I am a positive person, so the positives are that the reception kept our luggage safe, it was close by for exploring the city centre and it was really cheap. Breakfast was fine, it was edible and lots available.
