We enjoyed a 4-night stay at this Hoi An guesthouse. It was well situated 1.5 miles from the crowded, noisy, hectic Ancient City area, which was an easy walk or bike ride down the road. There were plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants near the hotel. In fact, a local market was just 2 blocks away where you could get many things very affordably.
Our room was spacious and clean. The king sized bed and pillows were comfortable. Plenty of hot water in the shower.
The reception counter was staffed by a friendly and helpful woman who spoke good English.
There was some unavoidable street noise mostly from motor scooters beeping at anything that moves. The hotel rented bicycles for 15k VND per day.
The Magnolia Garden Villa was an amazing value. We spent US$16 per night for a triple room that we loved.

You will have the best hosts here. They are able to customize and organize absolutely anything you need from tours to transport or vehicle rentals. The main host Ruby is very fluent in English so we had no language issue, and she was very warm and made several great recommendations. We had a great stay and would highly recommend it.

Where to start, the staff amazing, the room nice, the pool lovely. I cannot fault one thing about this place. Ruby was the most lovely lady we have met in Vietnam and really made us feel at home and did everything for us that she could. Her daughter is gorgeous and makes you smile. The breakfast was lovely and caters for everyone. You can rent bicycles from the hotel which is a must for Hoi An. The room was immaculate, with fresh water and was cleaned daily. I have told two different friends of mine to stay here already because it was the best place we’ve stayed in Vietnam. Thank you so much Ruby for a wonderful stay all the best for you and your family.

Our first visit and our last. Food was marginal. Server was very untrained, didn't know the menu. We reserved a table for 6 and we were jammed against a post while there were several other seating options. Servers wouldn't take the extra seconds to go around the other side of the table to serve the plates, rather just handed them over all of us. In a time when businesses have so much competition and fewer customers, it's best to train your staff.

Just want to put it out there that this place is NOT for everyone. Especially if you are slightly introverted and from a city where people don't talk to each other. This is a wonderful homestay but I do feel that I should share some things that I didn't really like, for any travellers that may have a similar disposition to me.
Some things you should be aware of:
- The family will expect you to sit down and talk (ask you questions) right when you arrive, before you bring your bags to your room or are shown where you will be staying. This was difficult for me because we had just travelled for x amount of hours, and I just wanted to wash my face and rest. I actually had to cut the hosts off and ask to be shown my room after sitting for approximately 20 minutes - and they seemed very shocked that I should ask to do this.
- The two sisters played music VERY loud early in the morning on the first morning of our stay. It was brutal. I get the impression that 7 am is not early for the hosts.
- You will be expected to eat dinner with the family and other guests staying at the homestay. We were very pressured to do this on our last night in Hoi An, when we were about to end our vacation and come back to Canada. We wanted to do our own thing, so declined - but we weren't let off that easy. We were just short of forced to sit in a circle with the other guests and the host and her boyfriend and drink tea and eat fruit. It was very awkward. The father confronted us again about not eating dinner with the family and guests.
I understand this is what a homestay is all about, but it was too much for me. I'm 23, born and raised in Toronto, and a little anxious in forced social settings. This is a FOR YOUR INFORMATION for similar types of people.
For more extroverted and engaging people, this place would be perfect.

From start to finish the hospitality received from ruby and her family was amazing, we didn't feel like guests, we actually felt like family. When we first arrived, Ruby sat us down and gave us some yoghurt, chocolate, water and took out a map and explained where everything was. She even called us by our first name everytime she seen us which made us feel so welcome.
The room was so big, the bed was really comfortable and the shower was amazing. The room was serviced everyday too. We spent 11 days here we loved it that much. We had to do a visa run in between to Singapore and Ruby allowed us to store our big bags with them while we were away for 3 days. They also let us use their address to have something posted to us.
The location was perfect in my opinion, just 15 mins cycle away from the ancient town and from the beach.
After traveling for 3 months around Asia, I can honestly say this has been the best place we have stayed. I hope I can return in the future and visit Ruby and her family again.
Thank you all for making our stay so special.

We had a nice stay at MGV Friendly, clean, nice big room with a small balcony. The pool looked sparkling clean and refreshing. We used their bikes to ride into town. Overall I would recommend this boutique style homestay.

Magnolia is a friendly family run homestay, maybe a little too friendly if you prefer to relax by yourself for some of your stay. You are expected to spend some time with the family and other guests during your stay. Not for everyone. nice location near the river but a little far from Hoi An old town if you prefer not to ride a bicycle. An average breakfast is included in the room price.

My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights and were very sad to leave. The family at Magnolia are truly the nicest, kindest, sweetest people I've ever met!
On our arrival, we were greeted very warmly, and were given a plate of fruit to enjoy as we briefly chatted. The father, despite not being able to speak English as well as his daughters, communicated genuine warmth and concern, and treated us like family.
Because of the location, the area is relatively quiet so we were able to get a good night's rest. Bikes are provided free for hire, and the main city area, about 10 minutes away by bike, is easy to get to (don't need to make any turns, just go straight along the road)! The family also provided us with a map and information about any tourist attractions we may want to visit. Unfortunately, on the first night, we left our bikes parked at a restaurant and later couldn't find them again! The father and mother came out on motorbike to find us wandering around, after being called by the restaurant. They basically saved us as we were hopelessly lost, and we were so grateful! Despite us troubling them, they seemed to genuinely just want to ensure our safety and assured us it was okay!
The younger daughter also kindly helped us organise and cancel tours despite not being affiliated with them. Someone was always on hand to help us call taxis as well!
The building itself is new and modern, with clean, large rooms. The rooms were cleaned each day, and all amenities were refilled or rearranged. Beds were comfortable, and there was a flat screen TV for us to enjoy during rest time. The bathroom was also extremely clean with no smell, and hot water was freely available. Showers were great and refreshing!
Breakfast was available in a lovely outdoor garden area. The food, particularly the cao lau, was better than many of the restaurants we ate at!
Overall, I would never hesitate to recommend Magnolia Homestay, and will definitely be coming here again. I miss the homestay already !

I stayed at the Magnolia Homestay in Hoi An, and it was a fantastic experience. The family were so friendly and couldn't do enough for me. They sorted out my transfers and gave me a bicycle to get around on.The Homestay is spotless clean and breakfast was great.
I booked a tour through the Homestay which I was really pleased with.
The only slight downside was that it was about a 20 min walk into the centre, but with the bicycle it was fine only 10 min cycle,
I stayed for 3 nights and would recommend to friends and come back again.
Ngoc the daughter spoke excellent English.
All in all a wonderful experience.
