The entrance is nice but the elevator and some of the hallways are dirty as they are renovating. I couldn't care less as long as the rooms were clean and they were.
I wish I had some initial directions since I relied heavily on the subway. So here are some pointers for those who are planning to stay at this hotel -
- The nearest station is Hailun Road on Line 4 (purple line). You can get here from the airport using the subway system.
- Look out for Hotel Sheraton when you get out of the station. Use this building as your navigation point because it is tall enough to locate around this neighbourhood. Walk towards the direction on Hailun Rd where the Sheraton will be on your left side. Keep walking for about 10 minutes and along the way you will go around some curbs.. Just keep walking until you are at the intersection with Sichuan North Rd. Make a right turn and walk for another 5 minutes. You are going the right direction if you see KFC on your right side after a couple of minutes on this road. At this point cross the road to the left because the hotel coming up is on the left side. The hotel address is Sichuan Road but the location of the hotel is between Sichuan and a small road so look out for the big sign on the top stating Kingtown. It shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to walk from the station.
- There is a 24/7 convenience store right outside the hotel which has in fact been very convenient.
- The breakfast option from the hotel is not worth it.
- They provided two free water bottles every day.
- Money Exchange - There is an automated money exchange machine inside the Sheraton Hotel. I have noticed that the airport and the small exchange places charges a fee for their service. You can skip the fees if you use this machine at the hotel. Not that many folks knows about this gem because I assume it is for the hotel guests.. So utilize wisely and respect the convenience. It is located near the washroom on the main floor.
- I took the train to Hongqiao Airport and it was about an hour. Plan 1.5 hours just to be on the safe side. I suspect it might be the same time from Pudong Airport.
- Word of caution - If you have a flight in the middle of the day and you are planning to take a taxi.. Be careful and give yourself plenty of cushion time because of the rush hour. I would rather take the train just to be on the safe side and it's predictable.
- There are two massage places along the road from the train station to the hotel. I went for a foot massage that was closest to the station (literally 3 minutes). I picked this one because the locals visited this place daily. Very little english but this establishment was the best bang for the buck, extremely polite, and helpful.
- Try out the small food joints on this same street going towards the hotel. They are really good and affordable.
- Some of the reviews noted that the front staff did not know English. This is not true. I have noticed that they always had one person who could communicate well in English.
- Download the Google translator on your phone because I have seen them use it quite extensively. I used it on many occasions and it worked like a charm.
- Pick up a local SIM card with data from the airport and it will be your best friend during the trip. I didn't know Chinese so being able to use my tablet and SIM card to translate sentences was a life saver. I communicated through pictures and the Google translator.
- Shanghai was a great experience for me. Have Fun!
The hotel is currently undergoing renovation. My room was one of the renovated ones. Gone are the carpet in the room. Room was spacious. Bed was comfortable.
You get two bottles of drinking water every day. Except for the bathroom, the room is pretty clean.
There is no fridge. Washroom and shower is small. Air and heating control is all in Chinese ...it wasn't easy to figure out how to use it. TV has only one English channel, one Japanese, one French and the rest are local channels.
Wifi was accepted. Much better than many other local hotels I have stayed in.
The street where the hotel is located is of historical significance. Take a stroll to appreciate historical buildings. Lots of places for meals ...unfortunately, they don't carry English menus. What you could do, like I did, is to take pictures of common Shanghai food and then show it to the person taking your orders. It is cheap local food.
Another 15 minutes walk along North Sichuan Road will bring you to local shopping malls with food court and restaurants. They have English menus.
Hotel is two subway stops from Qipu market, a wholesale market for clothes, mostly women, but you can still find men and children wears as well as luggages. To get there, exit at Tiantong station.
Direction to get hotel from subway station
From Pudong airport, take line 2 to East Nanjing. At East Nanjing, change train to line 10 to go to Hailan station. At Hailan station, use Exit 7 to Siping Road. Upon exit, you face Siping Road. Cross Siping road and to your right is a small street, Xingjiaqiao Rd North. Walk down the street. When you come to an intersection with another street, Changchun Rd, cross it and continue straight towards an alley. Walk straight. Steps from the end, turn left to a gate. Walk through it and that street leads to North Sichuan Road. You can see North Sichuan Road ahead. If you look upwards before you cross, you should see the signage of the hotel. The hotel is not conspicuous. Cross North Sichuan road and the hotel is on a street just to the right called Duolun Road. The hotel is next to a convenience store.
Note: If you have big luggage, use the Huilan road way (exit 4 of subway station) as you will not be able to get your large luggage through the gate.
Will visit again in future, as its near to shopping areas, near muslim foods & the famous BUND area.
TQ...
The bar in the lobby area closed 2 hours earlier than posted.
The business center isn’t a proper business center and is only open a few hours throughout the day. They were unable to print a simple 8.5x11 document for me.
I wouldn’t stay here again.
Needless to say we got our deposit back, a refund from
c trip and walked to the Narada boutique hotel 5 minutes down the road and luckily got a room for the week. Avoid.
The staff at the reception were very warm to receive us when we checked in. At the dinning room on the M floor where we had buffet breakfast, there was a young lady who helped to carry the food we picked up to the table. I have never had such service in hotels elsewhere.
The hotel room is not large but you have everything you need. One thing I like about this hotel is the room lights are well designed and quite bright. I have been in some hotel which the room lights are so dim that one can scaecely see things. There are many small supermarkets just round the corner where you can get all kinds of food. If you know how to find, there are shanghai style breakfast in an alley within 15 minutes walk from the hotel where you can have a feast at only $10-15 rmb per head.
In the past hotel rooms in China were well designed but poorly maintained. This is not the case anymore. The room facilities were well maintained. The rooms we stayed were standard two bed rooms, equivalent to four star standard but is only between 300-500 rmb(chinese yuan). Where else you can get such good deal?
On the downside, one may mention that there is no real lobby or bar where you can sit in the evening (which is very normal in China). Also the claim that the hotel is in walking distance from the Bund is a bit ambitious. We walked to the Bund, which was a very interesting tour, but it took us about 20 minutes to get there.
"Not far from Nanjing Road where there are all kinds of shops, 30 minutes to Hungqiao airport by taxi, about an hour by mtr."Read full review
