I was staying in the hotel after a gap of about 7 years (last i stayed with them was 2016). The property is very nicely located and a 5 minutes walk from Xintandi also a 1 minute walk from Metro Station. We choose a Suite room so we had a separate living room and a separate bedroom. Both were decent in size (not very big). The living room had a kitchenette, a dinning table for 2 people and a sofa sitting for 4 people. A door separated the bedroom. The room had all possible amenities. Surprisingly the telephone handsets were out of order, One of the power socket in kitchen was not working. Also there is no power socket in the sofa area. All the furniture and the Kitchen accessories were either old or dented and requires urgent renovation. The bathroom was also moderately spaced. The bathing experience was a decent one. For the bed, it was a little uncomfortable probably the mattress. I did not had best pf the sleeps. The property has a indoor pool and a gym. The breakfast was served on 6th floor and the service and food was very good.

Booked thru Booking.com (as no rooms available in Ascott's website during the dates 28June to 2 July23) and came with a free car ride to hotel from airport. They only waited 45min from scheduled arrival time and charged me RMB1 per minute if any delays. Took me 2.5hours from landing to clearing Customs.Ended up paying RMB150 for waiting charges.Could have just taken a taxi instead of the driver kept calling me asking when I can exit from Custom but I cant tell them to work faster. Its so annoying with this free ride. 1. Hotel is centrally located with Metro Line 1 entrance just across the street. 2. Hotel is a bit old and you can see it in the room's conditions. It could have been good if they have plug points at the working desk and living area. 3. The TVs are old and have grainy pictures and the living room's sound system doesnt work. The kitchen is ok with washing & dry machine. The free coffee and tea a bit tired with just Nescafe and Lipton teabags. They gave us 2 set of toothbrushs on check in and thats what you get as room amenities. They need to properly label the shampoo, conditioner and body wash tubes in the shower as all 3 looked the same design and only have very small words describing which is which. 4. We booked our room with breakfast . You choose 2 mains from a one pager and then buffet bread, salad and fruit with coffee and tea. The western mains are Ok but the Asian ones are not up to mark of a good 4 to 5 stars hotel standard. We have a char siew bun and you cant tell what it is anyway. They need to raise the standard if they want more people taking their breakfast as we noticed the coffeehouse is quite empty. Anyway, you can go down to B1 or B2 of the Metro Line1 for many food outlets. 5. When checkout, you need to "park"your space as people just dont queue and worst is that the reception entertained them and have no respect for people who queue. Only 2 staff working, probably understaffed and only one can speak and understand English. I think the hotel need upgrading and more training and more staff before we consider it again.

This is supposedly a five-star hotel, unfortunately I have to tell you that all the stars fell ruinously to the ground many years ago, the only thing of a five-star hotel that remains is the money you pay. Here a summary: Very ugly apartment with 20 years old, ruined furniture with stains and scratches. Despite being at a high floor, the living room, the kitchen, and the entrance of the apartment were extremely dark even in the sunniest day, it felt like being in a cave. 20 years old carpet in the room with stains and I don’t want to know what flora and fauna inside, simply disgusting. Smelly kitchen. Totally unreliable wi-fi. Unbelievably unprofessional and unfriendly staff, we are speaking about untrained people that can’t even speak a word of English. The washing/drying machine didn’t dry at all, I had to dry my washed clothes with the hairdryer. Extremely noisy due to construction site running also on weekends, of course the long staying guests are placed in rooms facing the construction site. Low quality breakfast…. The food in China is very good and inexpensive, paying 18 euros to eat badly cooked eggs and out of season, completely unflavoured fruit is a rip-off.

Overall service was pretty good and the place has great facilities, table tennis, tennis, pool, great gym, close to Lots of shops. My 3 rating comes from two areas. 1. We asked for connecting rooms and we were told we had to be on separate floors! Eventually we took a downgraded room just to be beside each other!!! No refunds on that! 2. Poor breakfast. They offer semi buffet style which I like but the delivery was not up to scratch. Eg I asked for 2 poached eggs and it came swimming in water. Hash browns were overcooked and cooked to a crisp. Salmon scrambled eggs came out like a fried omelette, Chinese dumplings came out cold. The buffet continental breakfast was just an eclectic mix. Not sure I'd come back to this hotel as I think there's better options even though I facilities are excellent.

I’m writing this review lying in bed, listening to a full conversation of the neighbour next door on his phone. The other neighbour next door is watching TV and I can hear it all. I am gobsmacked. It’s like being in a traffic jam (on-a Tuesday night). I had tried to forget the dated rooms, no room service (due to covid apparently except there is no mask wearing or asking for health codes), sauna and steam room don’t work. I’ve stayed at Ascotts in Beijing and in other countries and am a loyal customer but this is a bad joke. If you want a hotel that feels like a used car from 20 years ago that still charges new car prices, then get in line! Surely the Ascott company must be cringing over this embarrassment to their glamorous chain. You know it’s bad when you cannot even make out the numbers in the lift they are so worn out!

We enjoyed staying in this place and had a good two bed apartment for eight nights over New Year. It was well serviced and well appointed. It was a little tired in places but still very good. The location is great and very much part of the French Concession shopping world. There is a metro just down the street and one can walk easily to many great places. There is an excellent international supermarket which we used a lot so we could east in the apartment. The only thing I would say is that the rooms were very expensive although this is probably explained by New Year.

The Ascott has a GREAT location and is a good hotel. Service is friendly and they have upgraded their breakfast options over the past three years and now have a very good in-house restaurant. My main - and really only - complaint is that our room is in need of some basic maintenance and TLC. Rooms should be updated periodically and it seems this has been somewhat neglected at the Ascott.

First stay in Shanghai. Convenient stay with subway access and indoor access to Hong Kong plaza mall. Spacious space for 3 with full amenities such as kitchen and washer/dryer. Fully utilize the washer/dryer with the daily supply of detergent. 5-mins’ walk to Xintiandi area and plenty of malls (k11, etc) on the middle Huai hai shopping street. Shopping heaven, most importantly close to many eateries.

Whilst the room is nice and comfortable beds, The service is so bad it ruins the whole stay. We had booked the room with breakfast only to be told no by front desk. We had to call Ascott Australia on international charges and wait for 45 minutes to get it resolved. It’s in a great location and the gym is good. The room is tidy and clean. We have been staying in all Ascott hotels on our stay in China and the service is not up to Ascott standards. Recommend avoid staying here.
