Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Reasonably good restaurant. No complimentary breakfast. At 5-7 min walking distance from Metro subway line 2 and line 10. There is a halal restaurant near by as well. Another better and expansive Jordanian halal restaurant is near yuyuwan garden.

I spent 2 days in this hotel. The only good thing in this hotel is the location, the rest very poor. Internet in the room didn't work, the room smells humidity, the toilet didn't work neither. The hotel is a bit weird since there is a small reception, it seems that you are in a flat building instead of hotel building. I will not repeat again when I travel to Shanghai again.

This was a pretty decent hotel in the luxury category- now not so much. others have commented that things have changed. What was swanky is now...not. Please come back to the way it was. I liked having a good reliable option in shanghai.

Nearby great shopping on Nanjing road and very close to the Nanjing Road metro station (about a 5 min walk). Nothing special inside -- we walked in late at night after getting in from the airport and the lobby was completely dark and kind of foreboding. The room was alright and we were extremely happy there was A/C to help with the hot humidity.

We booked this hotel because my girlfriend had stayed here many times and said it was good. Well things have changed! There wallpaper ripped off walls. Mould on roof. Showers not working. Phone system not working. Only thing that works is the cleaners. Its so run down and I don't think they employ maintenance staff anymore. Its a disgrace. We had to change rooms to get a working bathroom and even then we had cold water one morning. I just wish the health inspectors would shut this down. Have not checked if its listed on other sites such as ctrip or agoda but these guys need to take it off their books if it is. Its a disgrace.

Havings stayed at the Salvo when it was new in 2004 and several times during the next 5 or 6 years, I was shocked what has happened to it. It wasn't lit, broken tiles all over the place, the main desk shut, wallpaper either ripped off the walls or moldy, etc. The room had a new flat screen but otherwise the bathroom had black mold, damaged fixtures, etc. If I hadn't guaranteed payment on my credit card, I would have walked out immediately. It was a beautiful hotel when new but I couldn't even tell if it was open when I came upon it this time (both from the outside and in the darkened lobby).

I'm not exactly sure what is going on at this building but the lobby and the halls are very dark - few if any lights on, the ceiling tiles are falling in, and it was damp and freezing. Our room smelled like a boat and the windows were dirty. there are no amenities on site - no breakfast room, no restaurant, no 31st floor bar, none of that. But the view is to die for and the furnishings in the room were fabulous. The shower was plentiful and hot too. So if you're like us and spend very little time in your room but always love a view, a good bed and a hot shower, this is definitely the place for you.

First special mention to the reservation staff ( booked directly via hotel website) very efficient, helpful and fluent in English, just perfect. English is less mastered by front desk, depending on whom you meet, anyway always smiling (not that common here) and enough for check in.. A bit old hotel that would certainly need a few refurbishments, some equipments are unserviceable ( safe box). Nevertheless rooms are clean, wide, reasonably equipped ( would have appreciated slippers and bathrobe), sound insulation is ok. Location is quite good 10mns walk from east nanjing rd station ( direct subway to both airports) and nearby the 2 only things to do in shanghai ( bund and museum)... Regarding the rates and prices in the area, great value !!

This is not call a hotel. Decoration in the room out of date, dirty looks and scarry because of old stuff. Staff is not friendly, no English speaking only 3 person. Lobby has no light, no rest room, entrance rolling door is not working, no concierge. I will not come back for this hotel Horrible again, even it is close to Nanjing Road. Not recommend for foreigner tourist.

Do not be cheated by the photos uploaded, the hotel is in a badly stage when I last saw it. Horrible, dishonest staff who double charge me. Luckily I booked through agoda, in the Long process waiting and waiting. Agoda refunded me, this salvo hotel did nothing. They are cheats! Multiple emails from me and agoda, their response was refunded done. But when I checked with bank, of course that was not the case. Dear Travellers pls do not even consider salvo hotel, this hotel is certainly one of the worst in Shanghai. If you wanted to go to Nanjing bu xing jie, cheng huang miao, there are better hotels.
