We travelled to this resort in April 2023 for 5 nights as a family. I was really looking forward to this as the reviews and hotel looked great! I am going to give a very honest account as to why I am only giving this a 3 star review. You will find a more comprehensive review on my blog site. I will begin with the positives: Rooms: We arrived in the afternoon and had booked two upper sala rooms requesting them to be next to eachother, which they were. Unfortunately sea view had been unavailable. I must say the rooms were lovely! Equipped with all amenities from bottles of water, bathroom supplies, beach bags provided as well as slippers, robes and hard soled sandals too. There is also coffee machine/tea. The upper sala rooms have a gorgeous skylight over the bath, which is not present in the lower sala rooms. Food (initial impression): After freshening up we headed down to Naga terrace restaurant, and ordered a selection of starters. I must say everything was delicious! Deep fried chicken wings, veg tempura, wrapped shrimp with noodle. We were so impressed and were now looking forward to a buffet breakfast spread the next morning (as stated on their website). Beach: Stunning beach, the view of the beach from any angle is just gorgeous. I did read a few mixed reviews before booking, but I had no issues at all. The tide does come in – times of this noted at the towel stand. When the tide is out, yes you can see rocks, but just walk further into the sea, and honestly its soo lovely! Warm ocean like bath water and soft sand. The water is quite clear, there was no seaweed, and no sight of any jelly fish on our trip either. You can walk quite far out and it was still only up to our knees. I would most definitely visit this beach again. Immediately past some small rocks there is the Beyond Krabi resort and beach is gorgeous too, soft white sand (but the sea there has more waves). Nakamanda is in a cove so the water is ever so gentle and calm! I loved it. You cannot however, sunbathe on the beach but there are sunbeds etc are instead on the resort just above the ocean, and I found this completely fine (it just comes down to personal preference). Resort Layout: Beautiful layout, everywhere you walk you are surrounded my plants, trees and nature, it really does make it a lovely experience. There are a lot of steps, which can get annoying if you are walking to the lobby a lot, so instead if you go to the towel stand, there is a pathway on the right side, you can walk up there and come straight up to the road (Nakamanda entrance will be on your right) – but I found this a much quicker and easier way to the lobby/road (access to other restaurants etc). We didn’t visit the spa, but did have a peek and this looked fine. The resort overall is clean, beautiful and well kept. Pool: The pool is lovely, warm and comfortable temperature. Close to the sea, so like an infinity pool layout. Service is wonderful, and someone always cleans away towels and brings you water. There is a smaller bit for kids too. It is well kept, and cleaned daily. Excursions: no need to travel to Ao Nang to take excursions, there are many boats leaving from the hotel beach area. We just approached someone and booked a private boat tour. We didn’t ask for the any of the tours you see advertised. Instead we planned our own island stops for the day. It ended at Hong island and the lagoon - stunning (full review on this too) Nearby: Lots of restaurants when you exit the resort and turn left, all within walking distance. If you walk about 800m right instead, close to the Dusit then there are lots of restaurants there too! So a great variety of places to eat, and food was great, just check reviews! Andalay Beach café was great for afternoon snacks and drinks, Mother House was lovely, we also tried The Beach House, and Baan Tha Ley Café. All had great food, and I’ve done separate reviews on each of these. Concerns/Issues : 1st morning – breakfast : There is NO buffet breakfast. The breakfast room had some carton juice in the dispensers (I verbally confirmed it wasn’t freshly squeezed juice!!) and some cereal, fruit and yoghurt, croissants laid out. That was it!! The rest of the room was empty and covered up with sheets. I asked where the breakfast is, they said they don’t do any buffet, and if we wanted anything then we could walk up to them and ask. So I asked for a menu, and they said there isn’t one!!! I had remembered seeing a room service menu for breakfast, after insisting on a menu, the staff eventually brought one out, which included fresh juice options (it was the same as the room menu). Despite the menu offering hash browns, the staff still had to check if they were available. I confirmed that the hotel website did in fact state 'buffet breakfast', so contacted the agent - Trip.com, and explained my issue. The hotel management offered an apology and suggested a room upgrade as compensation. We were taken to see the pool villa to see if we would like to move here for the remainder of our stay (4 nights). The villa was stunning, it had four buildings - two large bedrooms, a living area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a pool and jacuzzi with ocean views. The manager promised to ensure that we would be well looked after for the remainder of our stay. 2nd morning : There was definitely special treatment given, the buffet room empty. Chef came out and greeted us and brought us plates of fruit etc. and a plate of tempura without us even asking. He said we could order anything we liked from the menu. Third day – this is where things became interesting. Egg station was open with French toast and pancakes being made too! There was even one side of the buffet open with bacon, sausages etc. I did try the pancakes and unfortunately, I don’t think they know quite how to cook these are they were soggy on the inside! 4th day – wow today there was even dumplings and the buffet. 5th and last morning – FULL BUFFET OPEN, with Thai food and curries! Both sides of the buffet were fully open, egg station still open (like the previous few days) AND they had another area outside making THAI pancakes with choice of toppings! Last note : The BBQ and live music night was overpriced and not worth the money. The jumbo prawns were £10 each, and the fish was small. We did complain and received a discount, but I advise not to waste your money as can find better value elsewhere.
