I've been living and working in The Gambia for the past few months, and managed to have a couple of weekends. The White Horse has been by far the most relaxing, luxurious and high-end establishment I've stayed in so far. The location is absolutely idyllic, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food was extremely enjoyable. The owner was so friendly and made out group feel so welcome! With some prior warning, they were able to provide me with an excellent vegetarian meal. Overall I would highly recommend staying here. Worth a trip out of Serrekunda for a truly relaxing weekend!

A wonderful discovery, Whitehorse is a beautiful place to stay in a peaceful ocean-view location. We were treated like royalty by the friendly attentive staff, treated to sumptuous authentic Gambian food and had every need catered to. Thank you Haddy and team. We will return ...

we almost didn’t book this place after looking at prices on the booking site We decided to call them and they offered a good discount because of COVID - plus the pool was out of order, they didn’t have wifi since there’s so few guests, bar and restaurant was closed, deck chairs were kept which was fine for us We were the only ones for two nights - it’s very peaceful here, there’s stunning views of the sea with birds chirping and waves crashing. There’s a lot of space to chill - at the living room, by the pool, under the shelters in front of the rooms, patio etc It’s a short walk to the beach We had lunch and dinner outside - lots of options but varying experience One was at paradise cafe - a makeshift place at the beach The owner serves fabulous affordable meals - grilled fish with rice and vegetables, chilled wines and beers He even offered to bring it up to our lodge, served them in proper plates and delivered them on time. We appreciate this considering he had to walk up and down the slope to the lodge in the dark The second dinner location was coconut lodge/restaurant 2 mins walk along the same road of White House residence They refused to bring the food over at 8pm even though it’s a 2 min walk down, kept criticizing White House for being expensive and asked us to move over We ordered the grilled fish with chips and vegetables. It was served in takeaway boxes with sauce that leaked all over the bags and our clothes. They took more than 1 hour to prepare. Salad was dripping with sauce - too soggy, fries were cold, fish was ok. Breakfast was thankfully served in the residence - simple eggs, tomatoes and bread though they take 1 hour Overall it’s a relaxing place to stay and we appreciated the flexibility in pricing given the availability of limited facilities and services available during this time.

We stayed for 10 days in February but had some issues from the start. When we arrived reception was closed and we were shown to our room by the bar staff. There was nobody in reception the following day either. The room was ok but we had no hot water for the first 2 days which the hotel tried to fix but it was on and off for the remainder of our stay. The staff were very good and worked long hours, but there is clearly a management problem, the last manager left shortly after we departed. The hotel is in a lovely location but unless they sort out the management problem it will fail. Maybe this is already happening as the hotel was 50% occupied when we were there what should be the peak season. Needless to say we will not return.

We stayed at the White Horse Residence with friends from 21 Feb to 6 March 2020. This was our third visit and we enjoyed it evrybit, if not more, than the first two. We found the food, cleanliness and service absolutely excellent at all times. The choice of menu and standard of the evning meal was first class, I always selected fish and found the flavour of the ladyfish, Captain Fish and Butter Fish to be superb at all times. The bar front ofhouse staff of Mariama, Christopher, caddy and Hadji to be exceptional and they were willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were happy with our meal selection. We found the rooms to be especially clean this year, Maariama and her team deserve much credit fr their hard work. The management team of Erica and Nyang work well together and dealt with any problems in a most professionaal and inobtrusive manner. We will certainly visit this wonderful establishment again next year.

It's only a 4 bedroom hotel. But the place is amazing. Acres of landscape gardens leading down to the beach. So peaceful. It's just beautiful is hidden away from everything. But is not far from tanji fishing port. Is only about 20 25 minute drive from senegambia if there is no traffic. But if you want just chill sunbathe want some peace and quiet with very nice staff. This is place to visit. Once you enter the gates you are just in huge private oasis. Swimming pool. Over looking the beach. Scenery is amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our repeat January visit and would love another! The location is as beautiful as always, overlooking natural gardens, the beach and sea. The staff are all so willing and pleasant, Christopher and Mariamma, responsible for serving evening meals and drinks really went the extra mile! The quality of the food is great, with a super amount of choice of fresh food at fair prices. The general cleanliness has also stepped up a notch and the pool is beautifully maintained. I couldn't wait for my two massages from the resident therapist, she is very professional and skilled and half the UK price, a real treat. The WHR is more expensive than many other hotels in the area, but is still very reasonably priced in my opinion and for the quality of location, service, catering and convenience, well worth the money. Do the river treat with Tommy, so many beautiful birds, so relaxing and very special. Thank you all at White Horse. C & C xx

Our second visit to The Gambia and the WHR. We could not imagine staying anywhere else. We had 12 blissful days in room 5, perfectly situated and very quiet no neighbours in room 4 for the duration of our stay. The views as ever were very calming hence the Mindfulness retreat title. There have been many positive changes since our first visit. The food which was good then is even better now with unlimited choices from the menu. The staff could not have been more helpful. The management team are very professional. We went on one of Tommy’s river trips again with Solomon as our oarsman and with a lovely couple who returned again after their first visit last year. We remembered our binoculars, a must. For 12 blissful days we swam, looked at the sky, the ocean, ate, swam, read, looked at the sky and ocean, read and came home very refreshed. 5 and a half hours flight travel, no time difference, Titian airways, what was not to like! We have booked again for New Year and on our recommendation some friends are are joining us for part of the trip. Onwards and upwards to the team at WHR, another fabulous relaxing, mid winter holiday.

We have just returned from our second stay at The White Horse. Our stay again was excellent. The new hotel manager, Erica, is wonderful her advice and welcome made us feel very comfortable and made our visit easy and relaxing. The hotel was very quiet and we had cabin 4/5 to ourselves which was an added bonus. The food was varied and delicious, we were on 1/2 board. It was served with professionalism by Chris and Marriane, the wine list was much improved, we can recommend Pearly Bay dry white, perfect with our evening meal cooked perfectly, overlooking the pool and the ocean beyond. The gardens were as beautiful as ever with plenty of sitting areas in the shade and sun. The ‘birdman’ Tommy is amazing and a great source of knowledge of the birds, fauna, trees and flowers of the area. We had a wonderful circular walk with him and learned so much. Thank you Tommy. One improvement that would really improve professionalism is that the male members of staff wear a uniform, a simple T-Shirt displaying their name on a badge, it would so add to the positive attitude of the catering staff in their uniforms and create a ‘team’ as is found in the other hotels we have stayed in The Gambia ( in fact in hotels big and small throughout the world ) That aside we had a great time!
