We love the Luar , we have only had one bad experience with 1 male member of staff last year but didn’t let it put us off. The pool is Basic but lovely and always roomy always enough chairs . Toilets outside by the pools . The snack bar inside needs sorting as new people have taken it over and the owner is quite rude but the young girls are lovely. House maids were great and always looked after us which was much appreciated. All members of staff on front desk were very helpful. Luar is in prime location. Just walk out the back gate and you are overlooking the beautiful beach and plenty of Bars - Restaurants - Shops and Markets. Breakfast is Basic but gets you by . Thank you to all staff at Luar x

This hotel is lovely and just what you want for a good night's sleep. If I have one criticism, it would be that the floor in the room could have done with the wipe of a mop. The beds were comfy but the pillows a little too soft for me. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was good.

This hotel is so close to the beach but the pool is also perfect for a days lazing about. Area is stunning to visit. The staff at the hotel were very polite and the decor although a bit dated added to the charm. Rooms are clean and housekeeping went in every day we were there. The breakfast was plentiful and hours served 7.45 till 10.30 much more amenable for a relaxed holiday The only thing that I could see as a issue is there are not enough sunbeds for the size of the Hotel.

My partner and I stayed here for a week in August/September b+b, lovely hotel, basic rooms and standard breakfast. The location is brilliant though right next to the beach and there's loads of bars/restaurants and lots of stalls and shops close by. It is a budget hotel but it was lovely, as were the staff. The breakfast was the same each day but it didn't put us off at all as we really had a fantastic week staying here. The pool is lovely too and the garden. We would absolutely come back here. The price of our holiday was affordable and reasonable too.

The hotel is ideally located - it is very close to the beach, shops and restaurants. The hotel itself has a small bar/restaurant which is perfect for lunch and snacks. Due to the close proximity of the beach we rarely used the pool but it was very clean and well maintained. Note that the depth of the pool drops to about 2.1M/7ft quite sharply. The hotel itself is very clean and has a lovely spacious reception area and a separate reading room which has a small library selection and really comfy seats. The hotel bedrooms are comfortable although a bit dated. All rooms are fitted with twin beds, i.e. no doubles/kind size beds. The room is fitted with a small fridge. There is also a safe in the room and you pay a small charge to use it (€1 per night rental fee plus €15 deposit).

The location is excellent, just across from the beach and a few hundred meters from the main town with all the restaurants, pubs and night life. The Hotel is really great - we found it to be very clean, and really comfortable, very quiet at night even though our room was adjacent to the main lift - we were not disturbed once in the 4 nights we stayed there. The pool is very well kept, clean and deep (it is well over 2 meters at the deep end); plenty of sunbeds as many go across the walkway to the beach. The reception wait was long to check in but very helpful when we did and with the minor issues we had they were resolved immediately. The pool bar was in our opinion a bit expensive and food wasn't to our liking, but was open until late and opened early from 9am with the pool. The breakfast had little choice, but was very busy and although people complained about it, many sat down and seemed to eat plenty with many also making provisions for the day to take out with them; the quality of what was provided was to a high standard. Would highly recommend this hotel and staying there, and we hope to return again for a short stay in 2024.

We stayed at the Hotel Luar for six nights in early May. Although the hotel is located on a busy road, it is excellently situated for the beautiful beaches of Praia da Rocha, and is in a quiet area away from the busy resort centre. The design of the hotel is somewhat strange as there are very few rooms with direct sea views despite the proximity of the hotel to the coastline. Nonetheless, our room on the front of the hotel overlooking the road was spacious and simply finished, and had a balcony to catch the morning sun. The hotel is a bit dated but is well maintained and clean throughout. The breakfast, as others have commented, is not the best, but is adequate to set you up for the day. There is a nice pool area with sun loungers and a snack bar. The back gate takes you directly to the broad walk - turn left and walk a couple of minutes to find a good selection of restaurants and a few minutes further on, you are in the resort centre. Alternatively, take the steps down to the beach or turn right and walk for about 10 minutes to reach Vau. I would recommend the Hotel Luar to anyone seeking simple good value accommodation in a good location.

Response from Joao Gomes, Diretor-Geral at Hotel Luar

Neil, Thank you kindly for your review and rating. We love how the sun reaches each one of our front facing rooms either in the morning time or afternoon. While I understand your comments about the orientation of the balconies, the hotel was built in the late 1800's where it was common to have lots of sharing spaces for people to spend time together. We have a few ideas to restructure these spaces over the coming years that I am sure everyone will love. The location is certainly one of the best in the area and I am delighted you were able to maximise your time around the hotel. Hopefully we will see you again soon!
