I'm betting that most tourists who visit Capri are too full of themselves to even consider tracking down the best sandwich on the planet. Nope, they'd rather pay four figures for a very elegant meal at the top of the hill, or plop down in...a street-side restaurant for an overpriced beer and tired panini to get their "Capri experience."
The problem with saying that Aldo's Caprese Panini, with its olive oil, garlic and basil marinated tomatoes and huge slabs of fresh mozzarella on a gorgeous ciabatta roll for around six bucks, is a life-changing experience is that the line in his humble grocery store at 10 a.m. is already way too long. Too many locals and smart visitors already know that Aldo's is reason enough to visit Capri. If the word gets out to all the tourist riff-raff hunting through Trip Advisor for the best cheap eats on Capris, we'll have to start taking an earlier ferry from Napoli or Salerno to get to his shop before he runs out, which would be damn in convenient.
So no, I'll just keep quiet about it. The rest of you should too.More
