Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've been a few times to this bistrot & it really is a hidden gem well worth a visit. It looks off-putting for tourists as the front is entirely covered in red curtains. But behind that facade couldn't be further from that impression as it...is a warm, welcoming place with really very good food & a lovely ambiance. The staff are always very helpful & willing to translate the menu off the chalkboard only in French. Wines are really nice, reasonably priced & can be served by the glass, carafe or bottle. Never seen another tourist in it plus the boudin noir & prunes steeped in Calvados were to absolutely die for. Everything we've had has always been simply served & beautifully cooked.More

Cosy little place where the atmosphere is casual, the food is good and the service by Fabrice is pleasant and helpful.

It’s a record breaking heat wave in Paris and we went out of our way to go here because the fork said it had AC. It did not. It was sweltering. The salmon tartare was still pretty good.

We wandered in here one evening because we really wanted that classic small, French bistro experience. We weren't disappointed. We had originally tried another place around the corner but it was too touristy. This place was just what we were looking for! And it was...so close to the tourist trap place. Can't believe there wasn't a line out the door! The menu is a chalkboard that they set on your table for you to make your choices. Yes, it is all in French but no worries, our server spoke perfect English and was happy to explain all the dishes to us. We tried a large variety of dishes, everything from the escargot to the duck, and from the fish to the chocolate cake with a warm center. Doesn't really matter what you order everything is terrific. I believe the menu changes often to keep up with what is farm fresh and in season. That's why it is on a chalkboard. It was a perfect end to a long day, laughing and talking with my family in this cozy, casual little gem; just off the beaten path.More

Dining in this quaint restaurant was a real treat. The host/server explained everything to us on the menu, and each dish we had was really good, well prepared and satisfying. The host/server also made the dinner special with his excellent service and sense of humor....There were a lot of locals there, so it is probably a well kept secret from the hoards of tourists in the area. We had a really nice dinner there!More

The salmon pavé served on a bed of lentils is outstanding, cooked to perfection and served piping hot. The magret de canard (duck breast) was juicy with a side of roasted potatoes. The poached pear in wine was exceptional - save space for this dessert!...Our waiter was attentive to us with efficient service. High recommendations for all.More

We stopped by this restaurant with a recommendation from our tour guide. So happy we did! We tried the escargot, the goat cheese on bread, duck, sea bass, and the Creme brûlée. It was about 90€ but so worth it! Some of the best duck...I’ve ever had.More

My wife and I were visiting her Parisian cousin, who lives in the 7th. We went out for lunch, and the cousin suggested Le Bistrot de l'Universite, near Rue de Bac. It certainly fits the definition of "bistro"--small, informal, with simple foods prepared in traditional...ways. There was no three-course lunch menu on offer, just a la carte dishes-about six entrees and six plats. The entrees ranged from snails and shrimp salad to pate and terrine. We ordered only main courses: duck breast, plank steak, salmon. All were simply but perfectly prepared, accompanied by green beans, fried potatoes, and pasta, respectively. We arrived around 1:45 pm and took the only table available downstairs. The upstairs was also packed as we learned when folks came down to settle their checks. Downstairs holds 40 people in a space smaller than our living room, so it's typically cozy and humming with conversation. This part of Paris tends to be a little pricier than, say Montmartre, so our main courses alone were 18 Euros each. Add wine, mineral water, and a shared dessert -- and excellent nougat ice cream--and we came close to 100 Euros for three. Service is a bit frantic as one or two owners (?) try to cover all the tables. You'll take no risks here with quality and preparation. If you aren't familiar with French menu terms, be sure to ask for the server/owner to translate or consult a translator/dictionary. The menu changes daily and comes on a large blackboard. Look the the red front walking east on l'Universite from Rue de Bac.More

We only intended to have a cheap one-course evening, but ended up having three courses and a bottle of wine. Such is the welcoming atmosphere of this place. The staff (one bespectacled gentlemen in particular, whose name I never got) were very friendly and helpful,...not seeming to mind at all the fact that we spoke little French. We had made an attempt (a simple 'bonjour' upon arrival) and that seemed to be enough. The food was astonishingly good! From the first bite of my starter, toast topped with goat's cheese and salad, I was hooked. The flavour combinations were tuned to perfection. I had the duck with Parmesan pasta, which was one of the best meals I have eaten in some time. My mother had the blood sausage with mashed potato and would assure anyone that it much better than British black pudding. Great desserts and a great selection of wines top this place off at a 5 star! You will not be left disappointed!More

An old favorite for when we visit Paris. Food is delicious. I had the duck which was cooked to perfection with an amazing sauce and my husband had the blood sausage which he said was beyond delicious and authentic country food. The staff is friendly...and hard working. The ambience is cozy and international.More

We passed by this place and it looked nice. We had a very nice dinner, The menu is completely classic and does not pretend to be anything else but the ingredients were good and it was well prepared. We had a bottle of Gigondas which...was unusually good, especially for a restaurant and fairly priced too. The waiter was friendly. Quiet unpretentious, relaxed atmosphere. Pleasant decor. A nice evening.More
