Truly one of the hidden gems of the whole nation, Café Kailas is located on the small island of Siltasaari (literally "bridge island") practically under the large, iconic railway bridge (you see what they did there?) That runs over the rapids of the river Kymi...(kymenvirta).
The setting is absolutely beautiful, with large old trees providing shade to lovely terraces and the small old-style red buildings that comprise the café.
Access is via the main road by car, via a lively footpath from the neighbouring car park, or, for those lucky enough to experience Heinola by boat, by one of two large piers on the water.
The service is friendly, the cappuccino made professionally on proper equipment (none of that one-press automatic service station crap) and the cakes are truly fresh and wonderful!
This is THE place to stop by for a cup of coffee and a short break while driving past, or to spend an afternoon or evening with family and friends, enjoying ice-creams or ice cold lager. Or the finnish Long Drink, or "lonkero".More
