Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Vibe: Old NYC-type family restaurant below street level in an out-of-the-way townhouse that has definitely seen better days. (The walk to the bathrooms was an experience.) Food: Good, but definitely not great. Certainly not NYC old-Italian caliber. Service: Perhaps too good. There are very few...tables, staff visibly hovers off to the side, rushing in to remove plates, encourage orders & payment. We were definitely feeling rushed to order, eat, & move on (despite frequent verbal assurances of "take your time"). Price: Typical for DC. Good (above-average for DC) pours on the wine. Final thought: The owners of this restaurant could probably make quite a successful go of it if they were in a better (& larger) space & location. I hope they get a chance to do so.More

Felt like we were walking into a neighbor’s home. Friendly server was spot on with his recommendations. We enjoyed our pasta dishes very much but found the fried calamari to be over fried. It had no chew left to it.

The street, setting and overall ambiance was great. Very cozy dinning room. We had excellent service and the food was great. It’s also fun to see the photos of celebrities that have been there.

This is a small, casual, cozy, busy & noisy Italian restaurant. It's down from street level and feels very much like a neighborhood place. You sort of feel like you're stepping back into the 70's. The food was good as was the wine and the...server was cheery and energetic. We had a fun evening!More

Giovanni's Trattu exceeded my expectations. The ambience was wonderful and the host gently took my coat and put it away. The seating is so well done; although the tables are a little close there was still the feeling of intimacy & privacy. The food was...superb & the service was refreshingly perfect ! Can't wait to visit D.C. again to go back.More

We lucked into finding this restaurant. The blue cheese garlic bread is REALLY good. We both had pasta dishes that were excellent. The mercy is much larger than what you see on line

We ate here twice over a week's stay in DC. It was near our hotel. Service the first night was very friendly. The second night it was OK. I find it annoying when servers sing along to the music, it’s very unprofessional. The food, though,...is very tasty. Everything we ate. Even the broccoli! The entrance is very uninviting. It could benefit from a refresh. Maybe change the door, or at least replace the missing glass, which seems to be missing quite a while. We would go back.More

Please tell me why restaurants have to douse food in parsley. It's a lazy chef that does this, especially when a tablespoon of it is dumped in a giant pile and throughout so there's no avoiding it. I wasn't able to eat much of it...(fettucine alfredo). Nice, little place that got very crowded. That make the sauce on site when ordered so if you want a lot of garlic you can get it, if you want none, you can get that too. We were never offered any bread, but other tables were.More

They were full but they made space for us anyway. Haven't had garlic bread in years and this hit the spot. Simple amazing dishes served which are yummy. Great family, welcoming atmosphere with a great menu.

This charming and intimate restaurant is tucked away; down a few steps to a delightful and welcoming bistro. It was like being in Italy. Our server, Enrico, was not only friendly and attentive, but gave us impeccable service. The Prosecco was chilled perfectly and we...enjoyed sipping it while drooling over the extensive menu selections. The pesto tortellini was exquisite and the fruitti de mare was fresh, delicately spicy with linguini cooked perfectly Al dente. For dessert, we had a delicious poached pear with vanilla gelato, topped with caramel and chocolate sauce. The presentation itself was as appetizing as this elegant and delicious closer to our most memorable and favorite meal in DC. Thank you all. Whenever we are in DC, we will always come back!More

Staying near DuPont Circle and wanting authentic Italian? Go here!! I started my meal with quite possibly the best calamari I’ve ever eaten. It was lightly fried, perfectly seasoned, and paired with a an incredibly flavorful spicy marinara. Fast forward to my meal — the...fettuccini porcini in a cream sauce - THE reason I chose those place. It was a densely packed mushroom flavor, it’s a creamy sauce that’s not too heavy, and a perfectly Al dente pasta. Y’all, let me tell you about the chocolate mouse that topped it off. It had a rich bitter chocolate flavor without the sweetness that crushes most desserts. Don’t sleep on this place because it’s small and the decor is… maybe a little retro. The food was phenomenal and the wait staff was attentive and authentic in their approach to making this a great meal. It’s absolutely the best Italian I’ve had outside of Italy andNYC. It’s well worth the visit.More

We stayed nearby and wanted to walk for good Italian. This was a great choice! Everything about this place screams old world Italian (American) restaurant. The decor, the menu and the ambiance—All pleasingly old world. Went with my family and we had: fettuccini Alfredo (excellent),...spaghetti carbonara (excellent!), the pesto gnocchi (excellent!) and a grilled chicken breast with a side of meatballs (excellent!). I tried them all! The service was friendly and prompt. We will definitely add this to our list.More

See the lengthy title. Our food and wine experience was consistent with the atmosphere. We had veal, pasta, Caesar salad, bread and dessert. All were great, as were our cannoli and poached pear deserts. A truly enjoyable dining experience. You won’t regret going.
