Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really looked forward to Indian dinner with our friends but we were disappointed. No prices displayed so regrettably we took our chances that they were reasonable. Nope. Mango lassi $7, small portions and tasted sour, like yoghurt was off, but there was so much mango...puree swirled around the glass that it drowned it somewhat. Korma and butter chicken pretty bland - korma veg seemed to be from a frozen packet. Chicken tikka over $30. Garlic naan and a few other of our 6 curries were good, but nothing was really tasty. I know it’s a holiday town but still overpriced. Got a full waited meal with alcohol, more food and way higher quality at the Thai place the night before for cheaper than this place.More

The manic chilli serves up delicious curries. These aren’t the run of the mill dishes. We had the chicken nawabi, lamb rogan josh, the jeera aloo, and half chicken tikka masala and plain naan and a side of tamarind. The rice portions were very generous....This fed 4 of us one meal and 2 of us dinner the following night. Writing this review is making my mouth water. We will be going back againMore

Being from the UK we have high standards and expectations of our curries. Most in NZ have disappointed. THIS DID NOT!! Fantastic depth and taste, great service and would make the 3.5 hour drive from home just for the curry We will be back

We both ordered butter chicken, it tasted just like tomato soup with flavourless dry chicken breast in it. Rice was very dry. Was so disappointing. There was no resemblance of any curry flavour and was so inedible. The garlic roti wasn’t much better but the...garlic naan was soft and the only thing edible.More

don't get me wrong, i love some kiwi curries, but i do miss the type of curry i used to get in the uk, and then I stayed in Ohakune and went to the Magic Chilli and BOOM curries like i've had in the UK....Lovely. Well priced and very busy. Highly recommendedMore

Magic chilli has great garlic butter naan bread. It melts in your mouth and is so warm and comforting. The curries are also excellent. The garlic, chilli, and ginger is so flavoursome reminding me of something my father would cook. The atmosphere was familiar and...reminded me of family. The server was so attentive and kind. 10/10 coming back again next year to try the rest of the menu.More

Refused us a table to eat in at 7pm saying they were too busy when there were 3 tables free and takeaway orders still being taken. No explanation, no apologies just rude and bad service for a family looking for somewhere to eat in a...small town in peak season for Ohakune. Thanks for spoiling our night!!More

Takeaway service, This must be the slowest service I have ever experienced from a takeaway. It is chaos. They don’t even record your order so you cannot track back who has ordered what packed waiting area. The only saving grace is it the only Indian,...run by Chinese, In town. My advice is E elsewhere as the wait time is 70 minutesMore

Eat here regularly when visiting Ohakune. Easily the best food in town. Eat a lot of Indian in Melbourne & overseas, this is top quality. MUST TRY METHI MALAI

we went to magic chilli in August while staying in Ohakune for ski season. The waitress mentioned that the chef can make any of their curry in mild, medium or hot. I checked with the waitress if they can make vindaloo mild since I have...never had vindaloo. She confirmed they can do that. Food comes out. After 4 mouthfuls, I was sweating. Got my mate to try the food and he confirmed it was definitely not mild, probably medium. I asked the waitress if it was mild or medium and she confirmed it was mild. She then offered to take the dish back to reduce the spice. After a few minutes, an older indian gentleman comes out with my dish and says "this is as mild as we can make this dish. If you can't take spice, you shouldnt have ordered this dish", puts the curry dish down and walks away. Disappointed. I hated the experience. Will never go back to this placeMore
