This restaurant in the harbour server an excellent dinner, inside our outside on the terrace overlooking the harbour. We are locals and were doing an evening walk before diner and came across this restaurant. Although we had not planned to eat out that night, the...menu by the door was so persuasive that we decided to try the dinner. We tried the chefs 5 course surprise dinner (eur 39) and the chef indeed surprised us with 5 wonderful 5 courses (fish, soup, fish, meat and cheese). Delicious and beautifully presented. Nice selection of wines for okay prices. We will go there again very soonMore

After a warm welcome and being placed by a window facing the harbour we we offered the 5 course menu which was explained to us. A wonderful initiative . We selected a starter, a mid course dish, the main course [asking for it to be...fish], and desert. There was an excellent wine list, but we opted for a Sicilian white wine, which was very good. As each incredible course arrived its makeup was meticulously described and this added to the great pleasure. The whole meal was a memorable experience and we cannot recommend the restaurant higher. Now a fine memory from 11th May, and wishing that we lived in Holland.More

Three couples celebrating a wonderful city break together, two of us had eaten here previously so knew this treasure well. Despite being a Thursday evening, the restaurant was well patronised so we were well advised to book beforehand. Our host advised us she was working...alone, but it didn't impact our enjoyment one bit. On recommendation, we opted for the four course surprize menu. It was every bit a lovely surprize too. After oysters, there was a bowl of steak tartare, white fish and fennel, rare beef with a jous, cheese board, and a sweet platter to finish. Described so simply does NO justice to the amazing depth of flavours and immaculate presentation. Het Gouden Kalf's cuisine would be thoroughly deserving of a Michelin star in your reviewers humble opinion. Each course was accompanied by matching wine suggestions; every one was most appropriate and perhaps slid down a little too easily? Further bottles of some were ordered... The bill matched the quality of food and service; do be prepared to pay for this level of care. Of all the places visited in four days in Den Haag, THIS was the highlight.More

It was an incredible lunch/food experience. We spent nearly 3 hours eating 5 courses menu, and every course was made with dedication, high quality and love for food. The different tastes were amazing. We will come back!

We had the 5 course surprise menu which was amazingly good value for money. Food quality was very good. They are flexible with vegetarian and gluten-free requirements we had at our table. Service was not super but very friendly. Overall very good value for money.

Den Haag, especially Scheveningen has a bunch of good restaurants. But het Gouden Kalv offers the perfect package: outstanding food and wine, amazing location & best service we ever happened to enjoy. My special request for a particular occasion was thoughtfully realized, thank you to...the whole team for really taking care of costumers as guests. Gold medal to golden calf!More

First of all we thought they managed the hygiene and social distancing very well, including the bathrooms. The menu is well done, limited but adequate choices. Food was generally good, but my sea bass was overcooked and dry. Service was OK, sometimes difficult to catch...a waiter’s eye - and there was no shortage of staff. On balance, deserves a 4 star rating - would only have been 3 but for their handling of the pandemic requirements.More

we had dinner here for two. The food looked nice but portions were incredibly small and the taste was okay-is but nothing special. We had accompanying wines. These wines were reasonable, but 4 out of 5 not special - despite the lengthy descriptions. Overall the...restaurant pretends to make great food, but in practice it does not live up to its pretentious.More

Excellent ‘ Crazy Sunday Lunch’ which was 5 courses that were served in a leisurely manner with explanation of each as you went along. No choice so what have is a surprise but we were delighted with what we were served. Portions can appear small...but it is a tasting menu and we were both pleasantly satisfied after our sweets and coffee. I thought it represented excellent value for money and I would definitely return. A wonderful way to spend a very wet and windy Sunday afternoon.More

Our last visit here was on the 4th of August. The 4 of us enjoyed the Sunday lunch and I have to say it is becoming one of my favorite sunday-lunch spots. Food is fairly priced for what they serve and the service is always...happy to oblige. Will definately come back soon.More

Dined with Norwegian friends at HGK tonight, probably one of the best meals we have had there and it has always been of a good quality. Tonight was spot on, Marta front of house was excellent, really engaging and good on wines. Food first class,...monkfish, cod and dessert real stand outs. Really well priced for quality and taste compared to other Hague restaurants. Will be back soon.More

A reservation is always advisable. We have been turned away on popular nights. But on occasion we lucked out and got a table .
