Came here post-meal on saturday night. We only had one beer and sat upstairs where you can still hear and see the live music as it's shown on tv screens. It's a nice place and the tapas menu looked amazing! A shame we didn't get to try it.
Best live music for miles. Small but big enough. If not blues then usually good rock music (not hard rock)x
Never tried the food but great selection of beers in good condition.
Amiable and tolerant crowd.
Characterful and thoroughly unpretentious venue, serving utterly delicious 'Yorkshire tapas'; an experience not to be missed. The upstairs gin bar and dining room has cosy, private booths, and John from Romania is a fabulous bar tender: he really knows his gins (apparently they stock hundreds of different ones), and really took the time to give my wife and I a great choice in drinks based on our specific tastes.
The live band playing downstairs was okay, and certainly added atmosphere.
Thoroughly recommended for food and drink, and a generally good evening.
Visited Blues Bar each time we have stayed over in Harrogate and each time we have felt very welcome. The bar obviously has its loyal regulars but they don't make you feel unwelcome at all. The live music is brilliant and especially good to have for entertainment on a Sunday afternoon. Drinks are not overpriced and there is a selection of real ales. There is a gin bar and food upstairs which we haven't tried but is reputed to be very good. This is a traditional ' spit & sawdust' type bar but all the more interesting and enjoyable for that. It has a new manager and we wish him well.
First of all I should say that I'm a big fan of Blues music, both listening to it and playing it. My wife and I chose Harrogate for a weekend break primarily so that we could see some live Blues. Places to see live Blues in the U.K. are few and far between to say the least. We booked a booth so that we could also eat the Yorkshire Tapas on the menu here.
On arrival we were told that the booked act had cancelled, but they were working on a replacement band. We decided to stay after coming so far. When we sat down and we're given the menu, we were then given a huge list of dishes that weren't available. We ordered what there was and actually had some decent food, but in the couple of hours we were there I only heard 3 blues songs. Needless to say, no replacement band was found and the whole evening was a complete let down. My feeling is that If this had been in America, there would have been 100% Blues music played and bands queuing up to get on stage (I'm from the UK btw).
This is not a Blues bar and they should be ashamed of themselves!
We took friends with us to stay in Harrogate for the New Year. Booked tickets for the Blues Cafe Bar evening bash with live band and a meal upstairs. We were not disappointed. Fantastic homecooked food - great sized portions. Absolutely fabulous selection of gin upstairs at the gin bar .... brilliant band, the place was hopping and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommended and would go back again.
