Close to the center of Nantes with direct access to the TGV train station and a shuttle link to Nantes Atlantique Airport, the Mercure Nantes Centre Gare is ideally located at the crossroads of the Euronantes business district, the Cité des Congrès events center, castle and Machines de L'Île.

We booked a good offer including breakfast, but it fully lives up to it's 3 star rating. The rooms are modern with attractive, glass fronted bathrooms. Breakfast was a little chaotic, but the food on offer was good. It is located next to the railway station, but the trains didn't disturb our sleep and is very convenient for the city centre.

We had two coarses off the carte both were exceptionally good. Great taste and great presentation , by far the best food we have eaten this holiday and by no means the most expensive.

While staying at this hotel for a total of five nights, we enjoyed the daily breakfast buffet with its array of cold cuts, local cheeses, croissants and other breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, and really good coffee. Scrambled eggs were available, and there was also a device in which one could boil eggs to one's liking. While the breakfast was exactly the same every morning (except once when they had run out of eggs), it made a pleasant and satisfying start to the day. One evening we had dinner, which, unfortunately, was a quite different experience. While the service was good, the food was not. Pretentious presentation -- the starter arranged on a slate, the main course on a weird plate made to look like one square plate on top of but slightly askew from another one -- could not disguise the unpleasant meat flavorings or the vegetables that were as overcooked as they were sparse. At first we were the only customers, but then a tour group came in and was seated on the other side of the room. At first we welcomed the more lively atmosphere, but then there appeared two entertainers, a pair of female clowns. Their antics before the tour group were annoying enough, but then one of them grabbed two bottles of wine from the bar and came over and plopped them down on our table. We did not find that amusing, nor did the bar staff.
Combining my rating of "excellent" for breakfast with one of "terrible" for dinner, I will be charitable and call this restaurant "average."
