Our host had arranged for a ride.We walked a while from the parking area. As we approached Porvoo the first thing I noticed is the architecture of the houses. The wooden architecture gives them an interesting look.
I found a lot of stylish restaurants doting the place.

There really isn't much to do in this one-horse town. It takes about an hour and a half to walk and see most of the important attractions like the cathedral and the old bridge. Most of the other "attractions" seem contrived to justify attracting tourists. Come here only if you have a surplus of time and low expectations.

Porvoo is the second oldest city in Finland, located about 50km east of Helsinki. Small town with wooden houses, i love walking thru the street, river and up to the hill.

Great to wander around the old town in Spring as there weren't lots of tourists. Many of the shops and restaurants were closed though on
Good Friday. But there are lovely walks along the river and up to the hill fort.

Small and compact, uphill and down, full of shops and cafes in converted old homes and old homes still occupied by residents, there was history and charm at every turn. Spring flowers had just begun to appear and the window boxes were filled with colour. We also went up to the old hillfort for which the town is named and the nearly abandoned old rail station which was also very interesting, a shame it is not better utilized - many, us included would love to see it thriving. As it was, we arrived via coach from Helsinki and thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the old wooden town and our tasty lunch.
