St. Joseph's Catholic Church is one of several historical landmark buildings along Bullion Street in Mariposa. This is a small wooden church that was built in 1862 and included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
The church is Carpenter Gothic in style. It has a simple and attractive white exterior with a front steeple at the church entrance. There are some flowers and planted beds in front of the church as well. Within, you'll find a simple interior with modest decor.
For those potentially interested in attending mass at the historic church, the posted masses schedule at the time of our visit was 8am daily, 10.30am on Sunday and 5pm on Saturdays.
Note, Visitors interested in viewing other historic sites around the area can also see the old stone jailhouse just a few blocks away as well as the Mariposa County Courthouse further up Bullion road between 9th and 10th Steets.
If you stop by the Visitor Centre of Highway 140 near the north end of Mariposa, you can pick up a free map of the town which includes each of these locations, making them very easy to locate while you are sightseeing around the town.
