Have been several times in the last six months, never disappointed. Of course they have an appetizer I have never seen anywhere else and love: fresh cooked pork skins, a/k/a chicharrones! They are still cracklin’ when brought to the table! Served with a yummy side of house made ranch with a dollop of hot sauce: perfect. Today’s special was a pork steak, a very popular bbq item during the summer in the St Louis region. This one was dry rubbed (!) and grilled, served with a side of bbq sauce. Tender and very lean for a pork steak, it had to be close to a pound and covered most of the plate and the unique Odie fries I added as a side. Oh Yum! Odie fires are quarter inch thick, inch and a half rounds of skin on potatoes.......deep fried and wonderful! Another diner had a lime grilled chicken with sautéed onions on a very good ciabatta roll: excellent!
Other visits I have had pork skins and an excellent burger, pork skins and an excellent meatloaf, etc. Their Pizza is evidently a local favorite, have some interesting combinations on the menu plus build our own: St Louis style, which is a thin crust. Will try eventually.
Server Becky was helpful and attentive. I mentioned I had been thinking about a bowl of house made chicken and dumpling soup but knew the pork steak was more than enough. She offered that they sold the soup to go, I ordered two. Becky came back in a couple of minutes to let me know there was only one order left, but they also had ham and bean. I kept myself from ordering 3 of those and took one of each home. Did I say I had the chicken and dumplings soup on a previous visit? And these are scratch made? And delicious! And $4 for what appears to be a two cup container: a steal!
This is excellent old school comfort food at reasonable prices. There is also a full bar and local craft beer.
